Jake Stapp, Counseling Intern

Taking steps toward healing and living a life of freedom is one of the most important things we can do in this life.

Counseling Approach

My goal is to help each client reach their full potential and live a life of peace and self-fulfillment. It is my belief that each person has a purpose in life and their gifts and talents help them to realize their calling. The pursuit of one’s calling involves understanding stressors in life and how to navigate them. I am passionate about working with Teens and Parents.
My primary counseling approaches are eclectic in nature involving Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MCBT),
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFBT). MCBT focuses on helping the client become aware of how their behavior is often dictated by their thoughts. When one learns to modify their thought process, their behavior follows suit. There are many different approaches to helping the client and MCBT has been proven to be effective in most cases. Each person is different and may require a modification of these approaches, but the most important aspect of this process is establishing a therapeutic relationship with the client with a foundation of trust and safety.

A Little About Me

I have a bachelor’s degree in community psychology from the University of Wahington and am currently pursuing a master’s degree through Liberty University. I have been married for 17 years to my beautiful wife. We have a 16-year-old daughter who is currently in her junior year of high school. I love to spend time with family and playing with our two German Shepard huskies, Jack and Nala. When I am not working, I enjoy golfing, skiing, and spending time on the water.
